Hollywood Turns Alice Into Feminist Manifesto, Anti-Male Action Flick

If you’re planning to see Disney’s new version of “Alice in Wonderland,” know that it really isn’t Alice in Wonderland at all. It’s Gloria (Steinem) and Betty (Friedan) and Susan (Sarandon) in a high tech, souped up, feminist wonderland. It’s like NOW (the National Organization for Women) invaded a kids’ flick and turned it into a horror movie. There’s nothing wondrous or wonderful about it. It’s dumbed down baloney. The new “Alice” is about the horrors of marriage and how, even back in the 1800s a young girl knows more about business and trading in far off lands than a...

Texas mayor resigns over allegations she stole neighbour's dog; custody hearing set

A small-town Texas mayor accused of secretly keeping her neighbour's dog after telling them the pet died has resigned. Grace Saenz-Lopez apologized Friday to Alice residents and said she believed her actions were in the dog's best interest. A custody hearing Monday is expected to decide who gets "Puddles", who Saenz-Lopez renamed "Panchito" after taking the dog last summer. A neighbouring family accuses Saenz-Lopez of refusing to return the dog after leaving it in her care while they went on vacation. A day after her neighbours left, Saenz-Lopez called to tell them Puddles had died. Three months later, a relative...

Alice (Cooper) in radioland: Hub station picks up rocker’s show

Politics might be the top water-cooler conversation this week, but don’t expect to hear it coming over the airwaves from shock-rocker Alice Cooper, whose syndicated radio show has been picked up by Boston’s WZLX-FM. “I don’t do politics. Hate politics,” said Cooper, who said rock and politics don’t mix. “Rock ’n’ roll is entertainment. Since when do we rockers know anything about politics?” Cooper, 58, was a guest DJ early yesterday at WZLX (100.7), where his syndicated radio show, “Nights with Alice Cooper,” now airs on Saturday nights. The granddad of theatrical metal performed at the Orpheum Sunday and ends...

Judge Alice Moore Batchelder (Sixth Circuit) on Supreme Nominee "list"

The Judge Bush Should Get to Know... Editorial July 2005 by: Peter W. Schramm After two weeks of rampant speculation, consensus has settled on the theory that the President will nominate a woman to replace Sandra Day O’Connor on the Supreme Court, but there is little consensus as to who that nominee will be. Several of the better-known female judges—Edith Jones, Janice Rogers Brown, and Priscilla Owen—have been all-but-dismissed by the chattering class as too "controversial" to be nominated at this time. Attention, therefore, is turning to lower-profile judges who have thus far escaped the media’s glare. Yet, like all...
